Gaja's New Wineries in Tuscany

Pieve Santa Restituta

Located in the Brunello di Montalcino appellation, Pieve Santa Restituta is a significant venture for Gaja in Tuscany. Acquired in 1994, the estate covers around 16 hectares of vineyards. Gaja produces two main Brunello di Montalcino wines here:

Rennina: A blend of Sangiovese grapes from three different vineyards within the estate. This wine is known for its elegance, complexity, and refined tannins.

Sugarille: A single-vineyard Brunello that showcases more structure and depth, reflecting the unique characteristics of the vineyard's terroir.

Ca' Marcanda

In 1996, Gaja acquired the Ca' Marcanda estate in Bolgheri, located in the Maremma region of Tuscany. This area is known for producing exceptional Bordeaux-style blends. The estate spans around 100 hectares of vineyards and produces several notable wines:

Magari: A blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc. This wine is appreciated for its richness, balance, and aromatic complexity.

Camarcanda: The flagship wine of the estate, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. It is noted for its powerful structure, depth, and aging potential.

Promis: A blend of Merlot, Syrah, and Sangiovese. This wine is more approachable in its youth, with vibrant fruit flavors and smooth tannins.

Gaja's ventures in Tuscany have allowed the winery to diversify its portfolio and showcase the versatility of different terroirs and grape varieties. The combination of traditional Piedmontese techniques with the unique characteristics of Tuscan vineyards has resulted in wines that are both innovative and respectful of their origins.
